Pachamama

This social-justice themed mural was created as part of a collaborative renovation of the Slow Food UW dining hall. This full panel was painted collaboratively by myself and Shiloah Coley. My section (left) weaves together agriculture, sustainability, immigration, and mother-earth imagery.

Pachamama tells the story of the cultural legacy of the extraction of resources from Latin America. Produce is excessively exported and overcultivated, leaving the land barren and the food vessels depleted. Those who rely on the land are moving their families and possessions where they can find greater abundance, represented here by a bountiful apple tree. The people in the scene are all in relationship with the natural world, as the ever-present earth goddess lies in wait, a silent observer of the ways of man.
